A Couture Guide to Finding Your Perfect Demure Fit

At Demure, every garment is crafted with precision, structure, and an appreciation for the female form. Accurate body measurements ensure the intended silhouette, balance, and elegance of each design is preserved.

This guide will help you measure your body correctly, whether you are selecting from our Ready-to-Wear collections or commissioning a made-to-measure couture piece.

Bust Measurement
Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level. This measurement helps determine the best fit across the chest and shoulders.

Waist Measurement
Measure around your natural waistline, the narrowest point. This ensures a comfortable and tailored fit around the midsection of our garments.

Essential Body Measurements
1. Bust

Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
Ensure the tape passes over the shoulder blades at the back.

Tip: Keep your arms relaxed at your sides.

2. Waist

Measure the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the navel.
Do not pull in your stomach.

Tip: Breathe normally — couture garments are designed for elegance and comfort.

3. Hips

Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
The tape should pass over the widest area, typically 18–22 cm (7–9 inches) below the waist.

4. Shoulder Width

Measure straight across the back from the outer edge of one shoulder to the other.

Used for: Structured jackets, capes, coats, and tailored silhouettes.

5. Bust Height

Measure from the top of the shoulder (where the shoulder meets the neck) down to the fullest point of the bust.

Important for: Draped bodices, evening gowns, and couture pieces.

6. Arm Length

With your arm slightly bent, measure from the shoulder point to the wrist.

7. Sleeve Circumference (Optional)

Measure around the fullest part of your upper arm.

Recommended for: Fitted sleeves, embellished designs, and couture tailoring.

8. Garment Length

Measure from the highest point of the shoulder down to your desired hemline.

  • Midi dresses: Mid-calf

  • Maxi dresses: Ankle length

  • Evening gowns: Floor length (with or without heels)
